Knitting

Knitting Level I: Intro to Basic Knitting Skills

Introduction to basic knitting skills and tools for the true beginner. Learn how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off as you create handily useful dishcloths. As your confidence and skills build, you will venture into learning increase and decrease stitches.

Knitting Level II: Intro to Intermediate Knitting Skills*

As a continuation of Beginning Knitting I, you will sharpen your skills as you knit a warm, snuggly hat. In this class you will be introduced to reading a pattern, knitting in the round, and learning how to modify this great little hat.

Basic Socks on Double Point Needles

Are you ready to tackle socks, but need a little guidance? This is the class for you! Learn the basics of sock construction. We will learn cuff-to-toe, heel flap and gusset construction while knitting a child-size sock. Pattern for standard Middleford child’s size sock provided.

Checkerboard Summer Scarf**

A scarf? For the summer? You bet! Knit up this fun, funky reversible summer wardrobe essential. Featured in Vogue Knitting, this lightweight scarf is a great follow-up project for beginners ready to learn new cast on methods and interesting stitches.

Fearless Cables **

Love cables, but fear them? Have fear no more, cables aren’t difficult to do! This technique class will go over how to put cable s in your projects.

Harlequin Swagger Jacket **

Knitting miters is so easy and so much fun! This is one of those projects that is hard to put down. This jacket can be made in two sleeve lengths or as a sleeveless tunic. Our model is in Cascade 220 to be used as a coat. Look for another model knit in a lighter weight yarn for all season wear.

Fluffer Scuffers **

Ready to try felting, but want something a little exciting? Want to get a jump on Christmas gift knitting? THese felted slippers fit the bill! Join Terri as she teaches Judy’s Magic Cast On, Magic Loop knitting, and a picot bind off. Prior experience with double points is a must.

Knitting as a Second Language

My First Pair of Grown-Up Socks*

This class is designed to build on the Basic Socks on DPNs class.  We will be making an easy, top down, adult-sized sock.  Learn a few new twists on your favorite basic sock recipe.  Terri will give you hints and tips to make your socks successful in both fit and durability.

Want to add pockets to any cardigan? Learn about different pocket types and how to apply them to sweater patterns by working pocket swatches. You’ll never be pocketless again!

Toe Up Socks**

Take sock knitting to the next level with this worsted weight to up sock. We’ll kick it up a notch with a modified heel and Jenny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off. If you;re ready to step outside the top-down box, then toe-up socks are for you! Previous sock knitting experience required.

Beginning Crochet Level I:Basic Dishcloth

Crochet is no longer the bland granny squares of your grandmother’s living room. Learn this amazing craft that has never been replicated by machine. Basic skills will get you wild about the wonderful world of crochet. Techniques include chain stitch, single, half-double, and double crochet.

Beginning Crochet Level II: Head Gear*

You’ve got crochet down flat, but what about in the round? Learn the simple formula for crocheting in the round to get both flat and shaped circles. You’ll have a fun summer hat at the end of class!

Beginning Crochet Level III: Intro to Advanced Stitches**

Needlework & Framing

Beginning Counted Cross-Stitch (2 Sessions)

Thinking of making a handmade gift for that special friend or family member? Counted cross-stitch is relaxing to do and beautiful when completed! Peggy will teach you fabric preparation, all basic stitches, and many valuable “tricks of the trade”. Class project provided. (Bring a lunch or snack.)

Framing 101 (2 Sessions)

Needle Felted Animals

Students will learn how to make felt using needles. And we’re not talking knitting needles! Learn how to make these adorable animals. Start with the body, move on to the head, legs, arms, and ears. Don’t forget the detail work for eyes and brows. At the end of this class you will have a complete animal!

Do you Ravelry? Check out the hot new online community for all things yarn! Keep track of your projects, log your stash, build your library, and much more. Even if you’re not incredibly tech savvy, you can use Ravelry.com. The primer includes handouts for easy navigation. Bring your laptop and digital camera (if you have one). (One extra machine may be available for student use. Extra camera on hand.)
