Believe it or not, fall is in the air at MYSS! What?, you say, it’s 90+ degrees. How can you think the autumn spirit is upon us? Well, my friends, the new fall yarns are starting to arrive at the shop and I think you will be searching for just the right patterns to allow you to play with some of these beauties. With the great selection of new yarns and patterns, your fingers will be flying so you can be wearing new digs before winter hits. Bring it on!

P.S. Malabrigo is coming!
P.P. S. Lovely new hand-dyed yarns from The Unique Sheep are here. Oh, by the way, Louisa Harding’s new silk tweed is coming. Don’t forget, Addi Clicks! What about silk puzzle box yarn holders from Lantern Moon? One more thing… Mini sock blocker key chains, too cute! (And more, we just don’t have any more room to list them!)
The Unique Sheep
The Unique Sheep is an independent yarn dyeing business from the amazing minds of Laura Bullins and Kelly Eels. Featuring more than 25 base yarns dyed in a wide variety of colorways, you’re sure to find something that you can’t live without. We have brought in our three favorite base yarns to start with, Tinsel Toes, Verve, and Luxe.
Tinsel Toes is a 50/50 Superwash Merino and Tencel fingering weight yarn. Verve is 100% Superwash Merino with a nice twist. Luxe is a 75/25 Superwash Merino and Tussah Silk fingering weight yarn. All three yarns are machine-wash and dry, but lay flat for best results. They come in 100g (400yd) skeins. These yarns are perfect for socks, shawls, scarves, or anything else you can dream up.
The Gradiance Kits are available in all three yarns in sock and shawl sizes. Gradiance dyeing is a technique exclusively developed by The Unique Sheep. With this method, you don’t have to carry two yarns at once to get a subtle blending from color to color. The yarn is dyed to allow your project to gradually transition within the color palette. Save 20% on your first kit when you take the Gradiance Method workshop in October.
You can’t find this yarn anywhere else locally! Be sure to log on to The Unique Sheep for a full range of colors. We can order any color you see on their site. Tinsel Toes, Verve, and Luxe are also available in “Big Foot” skeins (150g) for those times when 400 yards just isn’t enough. Not sure you’re ready to commit to an entire skein? Test out these yarns with the adorable Mini Sock Blocker keychain kits. Whatever you decide, you can’t go wrong with yarns from The Unique Sheep.

Clubs Galore
Sock Club
One sock, two sock, red sock, blue sock, oh what a lot of socks there are! (So it’s not quite Dr. Seuss, but you get the picture.) Especially if you are in the Sock of the Month club. Special kudos to Linda Bergquist and Jill Krumpeck who each completed a pair of socks per month for an entire year (that’s twelve pairs each)! Awesome job, ladies! Let’s start a year afresh with this September. The third Monday of the month, 5:30 – 7:00pm is Sock Club time.
Knit Block Club
The scrumptious Great American Afghan is the feature of the new Knit Block Club. Pick your own colors or use the ones featured in the shop model on display. You will learn lots of new stitches and push your knitting skills to the edge. Don’t worry; you won’t be alone on this journey. The Great American Afghan is a challenge worth tackling. Knit Block Club will be held the first Monday of the month, starting with September 7th (and yes, we know it’s Labor Day). Give us a call so we know you’re interested!
Both clubs will have a $10 monthly fee, which we will give back to you in the form of a $10 credit, good in the shop only on the night of the club. Put it towards your project or anything else your heart desires.
Thoughts to Live By
Buy the best you can afford. Purchasing only cheap materials doesn’t result in less cost to you in the end. The wear and tear on your hands and the diminished pleasure you get out of it ultimately defeat the purpose of your craft: pleasure and relaxation. If you divide the cost of materials by the time spent completing the project, you’ll find that the actual cost is very low, while the benefits to your health and happiness are high. Live it up (within reason). We won’t tell.
Mirasol
September is the Mirasol Collection month. A portion of each purchase is dedicated directly to funding a school in the remote area of Munani in the region of Puno (Peru) to educate children of shepherds. For each skein of yarn you buy, your name will be entered into a drawing for a beautiful basket full of Mirasol yarns. Buy a Mirasol book and get two tickets! See the garments and accessories knit from these beautiful fibers, on display around the shop.
